The caretakers
Husband and wife, herbalists and gardeners, devoted keepers of the old forest ways. Barely seven inches tall, they know that gentleness is its own kind of strength.
Their world
Oskar and Greta live among mossy roots, clear streams, fern-covered hollows, and sunlit clearings. Their beech-root home is small, but the forest around it is immense.
Humans pass close without knowing. The gnomes’ magic is subtle: knowledge of plants, patience with frightened animals, careful observation, and courage when something needs protecting.

A place in time
Late 16th century · Central Germany
Oskar and Greta live in the wooded hills outside Eisenach, where the northwestern edge of the Thuringian Forest rises above the town. Ancient beeches, narrow valleys, mossy ravines, and old paths shelter their home from ordinary sight.
High above the forest stands Wartburg Castle. In 1521 and 1522, Martin Luther lived there in hiding as “Junker Jörg.” By the later 16th century, his time at the castle had become part of the region’s living memory.
Woodcutters, herbalists, pilgrims, and traders pass nearby, but almost none see the hidden folk. A trustworthy traveler may glimpse a blue cap between the roots; most know the gnomes only through half-remembered stories.

Lives beneath the beeches
Oskar and Greta have spent many seasons caring for their garden, the ancient forest around it, and one another.
